What is facial liveness detection?
The use of biometric Vision Tech for mobile authentication is becoming ubiquitous, but requires that users be proven to be live and present while capturing their biometric selfie. Otherwise, fraudsters can “spoof” biometric security with printed photos, cutout masks, digital and video replay attacks, and 3D masks.
Liveness detection works with Vision tech to help prevent these “presentation attacks”. Where Vision tech can accurately answer the question “is this the right person?”, it doesn’t answer the question, “is this a live person?” This is the role of liveness detection.
